Damian Rosas

How did you get started in tennis?

I switched out of football in 7th grade due to some health concerns. Coach Skoruppa helped get me started with Coach Kapaun and Coach Sinard.

Where do you get your motivation for tennis?

I get motivation from Coach Sinard, because he’s always pushing us to be better and strive for more.

What is your favorite tennis memory?

My sophomore year, we were playing Mission Sharyland in the 5A Regional Quarter-Finals and I won my match 17-15 in the third set tiebreaker with a strained groin and hamstring. Shortly after, we won as a team and advanced to the 5A Regional Semi-Finals.

What is the best advice your coach ever gave you?

To stay out of my own way. Make the grades, work hard, and control what I can control like my effort and attitude. If I do those things, I can be really successful.

What further goals do you have in tennis?

I want to make it State Individually and as a Team.

What do you hope to do after graduation?

I want to play college tennis, try to qualify for the U.S. Open, and eventually be a coach.

What was the highlight of your season?

The highlight of my season came in the Regional Semi-Finals against Wimberley when I was able to defeat their No. 1 player in straight sets.

What would you say made you stand out this season to your teammates?

I guess because I was so dedicated and worked so hard to get to the level I’m at currently.
