The TM swim team boys won the district championship and the girls took 2nd place on January 25th at the Corpus Christi Natatorium. Junior Aidan Vargas discussed the meet.

What events did you compete at district?

I did the 200 medley relay and we got the district record. It was me, Luca (Nisimblat), Cameron (Quintero) and Christian (Castillo) and I competed in the 200 individual medley and I actually beat the record in that. We did the 200 free relay and the district relay and got first in both. I also did the 100 breaststroke and I got first in that too and I beat my record from last year.

Are you satisfied with your scores and time?

A couple days before the meet I got a really bad knot in my leg, so going into the meet I was skeptical. But after the first race everything just fell into place.

What happens next?

Right now we are trying to win region which means we have to beat out the same people we beat at first.

How do you feel about going to region?

It’s going to be a close race but I think our team can do it.

What steps did you take to make it to where you are?

A lot of practice but I still have fun whenever I can but a lot of dedication including 6 am practices, working out, practicing during the period and after school. I know what I had to do to be where I wanted to be and come region, I think I’m ready.
